Founded in Munich in 2012, Siqens is an innovative technology company that develops renewable energy solutions based on fuel cell technology. Siqens fuel cell Ecoport 800 is designed for facilitating renewable energy solutions in the off-grid market by adding a clean and reliable source of energy. The volatility of wind and sun necessitates back-up systems. Because of pollution and noise issues diesel gensets are becoming less acceptable and the desire for a reliable replacement is growing fast. Siqens’ contribution to this dynamic and growing market segment is their highly innovative and customer-optimized power generator Ecoport 800.

Our Approach: Economy and Ecology

Siqens is dedicated to creating a new standard for reliable off-grid power which will replace the polluting diesel gensets. The positive development of solar power and wind has to be accompanied by a clean backup solution that provides full and affordable reliability.

To achieve this, Siqens has invented a completely new fuel cell concept; a solution that is both eco-friendly and economically viable. From the initial idea in 2011 to the product in 2017, Siqens has consistently followed the route of cost minimization. Siqens’ concept includes a cost-optimized system and a cost-optimized operation:

  • Cost-optimized system:
    through an intelligent set-up and innovative principles to reduce fuel cell complexity at optimal performance
  • Cost-optimized operation:
    through the highest possible efficiency in conversion of an easily available and cheap fuel such as methanol

This new approach allows off-grid power for the lowest possible price per kWh without the noise and pollution of combustion engines. This makes us proud and confident. A true transition to renewable energy sources must benefit the customer without harming the environment.

More than 55 Years of Combined Experience

Right now, Siqens employs around 30 engineers, production workers, scientists, administrative and finance staff as well as students at its Munich headquarter. Our employees are working on product development in the field of electrical and mechanical engineering, material science and, electrochemistry and energy system design. The team consists of highly skilled experts in fuel cell development and commercialization with more than 55 years of combined work experience. Furthermore, we aggregate the engineering knowledge of different fuel cell technologies, which has lead to the development and facilitation of mature, market-ready products.

Besides a hands-on mentality and a clear benefit-driven market and customer focus, Siqens has a strong scientific background. We maintain collaborations with leading academic institutions such as the Technische Universität München, University of Applied Sciences Munich, Fraunhofer IGB, Fraunhofer ICT-IMM or Fuel Cell Research Center (ZBT).

In March 2015, Siqens received the highly eligible Horizon 2020 SME Instrument grant. The European Union honors and financially supports „Innovation Leaders” to transfer excellent technical innovations into marketable products. Siqens was one of very few selected German companies in the final application round.

Growth through Product Focus

While the last few years have indicated the key market players in photovoltaic and battery production, the race for the best positions in the fuel cell market has only just started. With an increase from 1.3 billion US dollars in 2013 to 2.2 billion US dollars in 2014, the fuel cell market has grown far faster than anticipated. Siqens is one of the leaders in fuel cell technology. We do business with a clear focus on products. We are sure the time is right for fuel cells to become a part of everybody’s daily life.

Our product: the Ecoport 800 for independent power generation. We see a market dominated by diesel generators, which is predicted to double by over 100 billion US dollar. But: there are no available diesel generators below 5 kW performance. Noise and emissions increasingly limit the available application areas. We offer the very first clean industry standard in the low power range.

We realized our innovative concept, which received the f-cell Award in October 2012, in just three and a half years: Our Ecoport 800 fuel cell system provides test customers with entirely self-sufficient electricity.
